The United Way of Greater Fort Dodge recognized several organizations for their outstanding efforts and dedication to the United Way at the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance’s Annual Dinner earlier this month.

Outstanding Pacesetter Companies

Outstanding Pacesetter Companies for the 2015-2016 United Way Community Campaign were Cargill, Valero Renewable Fuels, Nestle Purina PetCare Company and MidAmerican Energy.

CargillCargill

Cargill is one of United Way of Greater Fort Dodge’s most committed Pacesetter Companies and was again honored this year with an Outstanding Pacesetter Company Award. All employees participate in the employee campaign presentation, and Cargill even goes a step further by encouraging their subcontractors to jump on board with the United Way campaign. As an incentive to encourage their employees to donate to the United Way campaign, both the local plant and Cargill’s corporate office also match every employee and subcontractor’s donations, creating a double match to each individual contribution.

Valero

Valero Renewable Fuels was again honored for their efforts as an Outstanding Pacesetter Company. Corporate generosity is one of the guiding tenets of Valero’s business philosophy. Valero employees participate in the United Way campaign every year, pledging thousands of dollars locally to help nonprofit community organizations. Not only does Valero have one of the highest local percentages of giving with over 90% participation by its employees, but the average gift per employee is also one of the highest in the community. In addition, the company provides a corporate match to employee donations.

Nestle Purina PetCare Company is a very strong supporter of the United Way and was again recognized as an Outstanding Pacesetter Company. With more than half of its employees contributing to the campaign each year, Nestle Purina PetCare ranks as one of the highest companies locally for average giving per employees. Nestle Purina PetCare encourages their employees to give back to the community and backs up their commitment by offering generous incentives for employees to support the campaign.

MidAmerican Energy CompanyMidAmerican Energy

MidAmerican Energy was honored as an Outstanding Pacesetter Company for the first time this year. With a strong history of support for the local United Way, MidAmerican Energy made an even bigger impact this year with the largest percentage increase in giving for the 2015-2016 Community Campaign.

“We are very thankful for all of our Pacesetter Companies for their commitment to ensure that our United Way Community Campaign is a success year after year,” said Randy Kuhlman, CEO of the United Way of Greater Fort Dodge. “We are especially grateful for those that go above and beyond with their employee and corporate philanthropy and support and are pleased to recognize them as our Outstanding Pacesetter Companies.”

Outstanding Partner Agency

Children & Families of Iowa (CFI) was recognized as this year’s Outstanding Partner Agency for the outstanding programs and services they provide to youth and families in our community. CFI has been serving the Fort Dodge area for over 50 years and provides mental health therapy, counseling and support services to children and families. In 2015, CFI’s Fort Dodge office served more than 3,250 clients—85% of those being children and 91% from low income families.
