About the Pacesetter Companies

United Way defines a Pacesetter Company as an organization that has a strong history of support for United Way. Pacesetter Companies agree to implement the following winning campaign practices:
  • Provide full support and endorsement of United Way by management and labor.
  • Designate an Employee Campaign Manager (ECM) who will coordinate the employee campaign for their company. They may also consider utilizing a representative employee campaign committee to assist the campaign manager.
  • Set an organizational campaign goal.
  • Adhere to a campaign time schedule, which will permit a quick, enthusiastic and quality campaign scheduled during the campaign period.
  • Provide the opportunity to conduct individual or group solicitation meetings to educate employees regarding the programs that are provided through United Way sponsored agencies in addition to programs and initiatives directly led by United Way.
  • Encourage all employees to give through year-round payroll deduction and solicit new employees at the time of hiring.

Air National Guard - 133d Test Squadron, Fort Dodge

The 133d Test Squadron is an Air Combat Command (ACC) gained Air National Guard unit located in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The squadron began in 1948 as an Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron. In the early 1990s when ACC was formed, the unit became an air control squadron. In 2005, the unit was re-rolled into a test squadron maintaining the equipment and personnel of an ACS.

The primary focus of the 133d TS is to provide an effective and sustainable war fighting command and control (C2) capability through the professional test and evaluation of the control and reporting center to include the development of future system upgrades and modernization. The 133d TS consists of a mix of 140 Guard, Active-Guard, active-duty and full-time technicians with backgrounds in Command and Control, Weapons, Surveillance, Radar, Radio systems and Maintenance.

Boehringer Ingelheim - Veterinary Pharmaceutical Preparations in Fort Dodge, Iowa

Founded in 1865, this privately held company employs 142,000 people in 67 countries. Cargill employs approximately 150 people at the Fort Dodge plant. This Cargill plant will also produce dextrose, ethanol and SweetBran feed for cattle.

Children & Families of Iowa (CFI)

Children & Families of Iowa (CFI) offers solutions for families and children in crisis. CFI is one of Iowa's largest, most well-respected providers of family services. From a small adoption agency serving a few hundred children to a statewide organization serving over 21,000 people last year, CFI has grown by adhering to one basic principle: every child, every family deserves to be safe.

CFI provides foster care and adoption services; offers individual and family counseling, therapy and psychiatric services; provides information about childcare options; assistance in situations of domestic abuse.

CJ Bio America

For more than four decades, CJ has maintained a reputation as a leading food and consumer product manufacturer in South Korea. Since 2000, CJ's business portfolio has expanded to cover four core areas: Food and Food Service, Bio Pharma, Entertainment and Media, Home Shopping and Logistics

The CJ Bio America factory in Fort Dodge will produce more than 100,000 metric tons of amino acids annually to supplement animal feeds. CJ will use dextrose (250,000 tons annually) produced in the adjacent Cargill plant to produce lysine. Lysine is derived from corn byproducts to provide an essential amino acid for hog and poultry feed. Lysine is one of the essential amino acids for muscle growth. The finished product will be in both liquid and powder forms. 70 percent of it will be shipped by rail. Some liquid fertilizer will also be made at the plant.

CJ Bio America is part of CJ CheilJedang Corp. based in South Korea. Worldwide, the company has about 68,000 employees and sales worth $23.1 billion annually.

Community & Family Resources (CFR) is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of drug, alcohol, tobacco and gambling addictions. It is the objective of CFR to provide its customers, including clients, funding sources and other agencies, with services that promote healthy behavior and lifestyle.

CFR is dedicated to proactively assisting individuals, families and communities achieve healthy behavior and lifestyle through advocacy, prevention and treatment of substance abuse, problem gambling and mental illness. Each year, CFR offers treatment to more than 1,200 individuals.

Decker Truck Line, Inc.

Decker Truck Line, Inc., a family-owned business since 1931, takes great pride in providing excellent service to its customers, as well as providing a stable, positive and progressive work environment for its employees. From its humble beginnings in 1931 with a single Model B Ford, Decker has grown with its customers and is proud to be serving some of the same shippers today that were served in the early 1930s. Fort Dodge Ford began in October 1996 when Casey Johnson, his wife Deb and two sons Nick and Matt moved to Fort Dodge to purchase the existing Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership. At that time, the dealership was located several blocks away from the current location and featured a one-car showroom and 19 employees.

After nearly seven years of growth in the initial location, Casey and Deb decided to make a long-term commitment to Fort Dodge. They purchased the Toyota franchise in July 2003 and built a brand new facility to accommodate the growing business.

Casey and Deb Johnson are committed to the community and were recently awarded with the "Salute to the Dealers" award presented by Ford Motor Company, an honor only bestowed upon nine dealership owners in the country for their outstanding commitment and contributions to their community. Humes Distributing is wholesaler alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage company in Fort Dodge. Humes Distributing was founded in the early 1970s. The Humes family has generously supported local food pantries and homeless shelters.

Northwest Bank

Northwest Bank is a family-owned bank based in Spencer, Iowa, that serves 22 locations in Iowa and two locations in Nebraska. Northwest Bank employees are active members of the communities they serve, and their bankers make decisions locally.

Through Northwest Bank's Financial Literacy Program, students in their local community schools have adopted a new web-based e-learning platform with the sponsorship from Northwest Bank, taking part in a statewide financial literacy initiative.

The Iowa Bankers Association, its member banks and the Iowa College Student Aid Commission have partnered with EverFi, Inc. to deliver the program at no cost to schools. The online course uses the latest in new media technologies adaptive-pathing, 3-D gaming, social networking, online animations, video and messaging tools to bring complex financial concepts to life. Through the Northwest Financial Literacy program, students will get certified in over 600 topics in financial education and become more informed financial citizens.

Northwest Cares is a benevolent fund started in 1994. Through employee donations along with Northwest Bank matching those donations, assistance is provided to those in need in our communities.

Northwest Cares helps families that are in need due to parent and/or child medical illnesses, house fires, premature babies, and auto accidents, just to name a few. Northwest Cares gets referrals for families from Northwest Bank employees and other community members.

The Messenger

The Messenger is a newspaper that is printed and delivered to the Fort Dodge area. This area includes Buena Vista, Calhoun, Green, Hamilton, Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Sac, Webster and Wright counties. The Messenger was founded on July 31, 1856, and is printed seven days a week. The Messenger′s current circulation is 18,788 Monday through Saturday and 21,161 Sundays. It is printed with soy ink.

The Messenger is a strong United Way and community supporter, understanding that communication is one of the keys to growth and betterment of a community and individuals within that community.

United Bank of Iowa

United Bank of Iowa is an independent financial services organization. United Bank provides personal, business and agriculture services, as well as investment and trust services. United Bank has locations in 25 Iowa cities. United Bank of Iowa's beginnings tract back to February 1932 when the Ida County State Bank began banking business in Ida Grove.

UnityPoint Health - Fort Dodge

UnityPoint Health - Fort Dodge covers an eight county area in North Central Iowa with a population of approximately 100,000. The UPS Foundation seeks to support organizations that are in alignment with their focus areas, guidelines and non-discrimination policy, which are Diversity, Community Safety, Environment and Volunteerism.

Locally, UPS is a very strong supporter of the United Way of Fort Dodge's Bridging the Gap program. Bridging the Gap provides beds for children and families with children who do not have beds. UPS employees volunteer their time to pick up donated furniture and deliver that furniture to disadvantaged and needy families.

Valero Renewable Fuels

The employees of Valero participate in the United Way campaign every year, pledging millions of dollars to help nonprofit community organizations. Valero consistently boasts a 90 percent participation rate with the highest per-capita contributions in the nation. Because of its significant contributions to United Way and its commitment to all of its communities, Valero has twice received the Spirit of America Award, United Way's highest national honor.

For nearly 40 years, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have been committed to strengthening local communities around the world. Walmart, Sam's Club, and Logistics facilities encourage associates to volunteer for causes in their local community. Walmart, Sam's Club, and Logistics also give associates the opportunity to support participating orgaizations through payrool deduction, including the United Way.

Webster County

Webster County employees provide county services for more than 38,000 Webster County residents. They are responsible for assessing and collecting property taxes, maintaining property records, prosecution and investigative assistance for law enforcement agencies, public safety (sheriff’s department, emergency management, health department), planning and zoning, conservation, engineering, roads and veterans affairs. These services are overseen by the Board of Supervisors.

YWCA Center for Life Empowerment

The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Fort Dodge has been in existence since 1909, and at its current location since 1914. Today, the YWCA Center for Life Empowerment operates a licensed residential treatment center for women and children and offers intensive outpatient and extended outpatient programs for women and men. It also offers long term shelter services for homeless women and women and children whom have a desire to participate in empowerment and skill building to facilitate positive life changes. Support services are provided for those living in the facility such as parenting programs for young mothers, children's programs, and fitness programs.

The YWCA has served thousands of women and children in its 100+years in Fort Dodge, and will continue to serve for many years to come. Peoples' lives are affected by its presence every day through its substance abuse programming and homeless services.
